I am Julián Martínez.

I have dedicated my career to documentary film and video journalism, filming and directing diverse content for prominent broadcasters and streaming platforms such as HBO, VICE News, Showtime, the New York Times, Hulu, Channel 4, and the BBC. I primarily film in a documentary style, capturing natural moments and portraying real-life events as they unfold in front of the camera. I am also adept at lighting beautiful interviews.

During my career I have won 3 News and Documentary Emmy Awards, including having personally accepted the 2022 Award for Outstanding Video Journalism. I have directed productions that have gone on to win multiple other awards, including a Peabody and an Overseas Press Club Award.

My expertise lies in capturing authentic, unscripted moments in real-life situations, whether working alongside presenters and journalists or in un-hosted observational character-led documentaries. I am equally adept in both multi-camera and single-camera environments. I have spent countless hours working in often difficult and challenging circumstances across the globe, from the mountains of Dagestan to the Jungles of the Philippines. I am also hostile environment trained and have extensive experience working in such environments.

In 2023 I was interviewed by Canon to discuss my work and career. You can read the profile interview here.
